Causes for pc to slow down

Most of us have noticed that the longer we use our computers, the slower they get. In fact, the problem is so common that people assume it’s unavoidable and just part of a natural “aging process” of PCs.

By focusing on these critical areas and using the options provided by System Mechanic in this article, you can reverse the digital aging process and experience noticeably better overall PC performance and reliability. With this regular maintenance, your system and its programs can remain as quick and responsive as the first day you used them.

1. Program Misalignment

The Symptoms: Your programs take longer to open and, once opened, they respond more slowly. When you have multiple applications running, you experience lockups or crashes.
The Problem: Over time, the many interdependent files that make up a program tend to drift apart and become scattered across the hard drive. This misalignment not only impacts the speed at which your programs can run, it also causes excessive movement of the hard drive, which leads to unnecessary wear-and-tear on your hardware.
The Fix: Program Accelerator™ uses a patent-pending calibration technology to determine which program files are misaligned and should be grouped together for the fastest possible access. Once the dependent application files are realigned, the result is more efficient startup and more responsive performance from all of your programs.
Go to Toolbox > Individual Tools > Increase Performance > Program Accelerator.

2. Available RAM Decline

The Symptoms: Your PC gets progressively slower throughout the day, even after restarting. One or more of your larger programs frequently lock up. You regularly see low memory error messages.
The Problem: When memory is low, everything on your PC can suffer. The two critical problems that reduce your available RAM are (1) fragmented memory, which occurs simply with regular use—as we open, use, and close programs, and (2) memory leaks, which occur when a program doesn’t release memory after the program is closed.

The FixMemory Mechanic® reclaims valuable memory and tackles both corruption issues: it allows Windows to reassemble memory into neat, contiguous order and it frees the memory held captive by memory leaks. (Read more about how Memory Mechanic works.)
Go to Toolbox > Individual Tools > Increase Performance > Memory Mechanic.

3. Windows Startup Traffic Jam

The Symptoms: Your PC takes longer to start than it used to, as long as 5-10 minutes (or more) in severe cases. When you start or restart your computer, you may see cryptic warnings or error messages.
The Problem: Many applications and services are set to automatically start whenever your PC is started. Some of these programs are required and should be in the startup process, but many aren’t needed and create resource bottlenecks that add to the time it takes for your PC to boot up.

The FixStartup Optimizer™ uses research-based program classifications from iolo Labs to automatically detect unneeded (as well as potentially hazardous) startup items. Your important programs load, but the unnecessary ones are turned off and prevented from clogging up the Windows startup process. (Read more about how Startup Optimizer works.)
Go to Toolbox > Individual Tools > Increase Performance > Startup Optimizer.

4. Redundant or Unnecessary Installed Programs

The Symptoms: PC speed and responsiveness have slowed over time, particularly when running more than one program.
The Problem: As a rule, the more programs you have installed, the more work your PC has to do—and installing multiple programs that run the same functions needlessly adds to this burden. But with certain redundant programs, the problem goes beyond just wasted storage space and a larger processing load; for these applications, having multiple ones installed is actively harmful because it overloads background functioning and leads to system conflicts that slow everything down.

The Fix: CRUDD Remover™ detects and displays the redundant programs that can impact your PC’s performance and stability, and then you can decide which programs you want to keep or remove. By removing redundant programs, you eliminate unnecessary processing, free up drive space, and remove program conflicts.
Go to Toolbox > Individual Tools > Increase Performance > CRUDD Remover.

Protect your Android Phone with these Security Apps

Your mobile phone is probably your most important digital possession that holds your contacts, emails, text messages, personal photos and other confidential stuff that you would not like anyone else to see. Yet, it is so easy to lose one as you are carrying it everywhere you go.
There are a plethora of security apps in the Google Play store that help you safeguard your Android phone and offer options that increase your chances of locating your lost (or stolen) device. The Lookout app was the most popular choice for determining the location of a lost phone but with Google’s own Android Device Manager available, Lookout can be skipped (unless your phone is running an older version of Android).
The Android Device Manager shows a list of all Android phones and tablets that are connected to your Google Account and helps you locate them on a Google Map. You can ring your phone (in case it is hiding beneath the pillow) from the browser, lock the device with a custom PIN or perform a factory reset which permanently deletes all the data on your phone.
Android Security Apps

Android Device Manager requires that the device is online – connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi – for you to remotely ring, lock or erase the phone. There’re however apps like Prey andWhere’s my Droid app that let you remotely send commands to your phone via text messages.
For instance, an SMS command like “GO PREY” to your lost phone from any other mobile phone will ring the phone, record its geo-location and also captures a picture with the front camera. You can also lock your phone, erase the data, show a system notification or take a picture on-demand through commands sent via text messages.
Both Prey and Where’s My Droid can be configured to send SMS alerts to another number should someone try to change the existing SIM card of your phone. That said, you should also activate the SIM lock on your Android phone (Settings -> Security -> Setup SIM Card lock) and the device will require a password whenever it is powered on.
When you are charging your cell phone at a public station, you either have to watch the device all the time or you can activate the Anti-Theft Alarm app and relax a bit. The app will trigger a siren sound when someone disconnects the charger and your phone screen will flash continuously until the correct pin is entered. You can go a step further and configure the app to trigger an alert when someone moves the phone even a few inches from the original position.
Another Android App LockWatch records the phone’s location and captures a picture with a front camera when someone attempts to unlock the phone but enters a wrong PIN or password. This information is send to your email address and it happen silently so the intruder would never know that their activity has been recorded.
If the device gets lost or stolen, it is important that you report the matter to your carrier and the police and they are likely to ask for details like the device’s IMEI number, IMSI, SIM number, etc. It helps if you can keep a record of this information somewhere outside your phone. You can find the IMEI number by dialing *#06# or get the SIM reader app and it will instantly extract the SIM and Device info that you can save to your email account.
One more thing. You have protected your Android phone with a numeric PIN or a more complex alphanumeric password but these are obviously inconvenient as you have type the string every time you turn on the screen. A free app called SkipLock makes you life a bit easier.
The app will basically remove the lock when you are connected to one of the recognized Wi-Fi networks and restores the lock as soon as you are on 3G or a non-recognized Wi-Fi network. Thus, the phone stays unlocked when you are home but as soon as you step out, the lock becomes active. Since the SkipLock app isn’t in the Google Play Store, you’ll have to enableUnknown Sources to install the APK file on your phone.

Share your screen using Google Chrome

The newer versions of Google Chrome desktop browser and Chrome for Android include support for WebRTC (Web Real Time Communications), an emerging web standard that enables developers to add real-time audio and video capabilities to their web applications without the need for plug-ins or proprietary codecs.
With WebRTC, developers can build web apps that include capabilities like voice calling, audio & video conferencing, video broadcasting, screencasting and screen sharing in the browser via simple JavaScript without requiring plugins. Watch this Google I/O video or read this article on HTML5Rocks to gain a better understanding of WebRTC.

Screen Sharing Apps

Screen Sharing Apps Need No Plugins

While WebRTC is still not supported by other popular browsers like IE and Safari (seeIsWebRTCReadyYet.com), there are web apps already – same.iotalky.io and appear.in to name a few – that are using this technology to offer one-click screen sharing in the browser without you having to install or download anything. All you need is the latest Chrome browser.
There’s a little setting in Chrome that you need to enable though. Type chrome://flags in your Chrome’s address bar, find the setting that says “Enable screen capture support in getUserMedia()”, click the Enable button and restart your Chrome browser.
Same.io and Talky.io allow you to share your desktop screen with anyone though the Chrome browser. You open the website, allow the Chrome browser to access your web camera and microphone and hit the “Share my Screen” button. When you initiate a screen sharing session, you get a unique web URL and anyone who knows that URL can view your desktop screen live in their own Chrome browser.
The advantage with Talky.io is that it also allows private sessions so you can protect your screen sharing URLs with a password.
Appear.in is primarily an app for video meetings that also allows you to share your desktop screen with all the other meeting participants. You can invite up to 8 people in the video chat room and invitees can join the room by simply entering a unique URL. The developers have written a technical guide on how the app was implemented using WebRTC and HTML5.
The quality of streaming video is acceptable and because these screen sharing apps work directly in the browser, they can be used on all platforms where Chrome is available (including Chrome OS). That said, there’s still work to be done, especially on the WebRTC end, before these apps can be considered as true replacements of dedicated screen sharing software programs like TeamViewer, Join.me or even Skype.

Create a Public Folder where anyone can share a file

Dropbox and SkyDrive allow you to have “Shared Folders” where a folder is shared between all members of the group. Any member can contribute files to the shared web folder and such a thing is ideal for collaborative efforts like for sharing photos with guests after an event. People can view photos uploaded by other users as well as upload their own to the shared folder.

A limitation with these “shared folders” is that the folder owner must invite a user before he or she can add files to the folder.
OneTimeBox, a web app that went live at the recently concluded MIT hackathon (coding contest),  takes a different approach to shared folders. The app creates a disposable, public web folder where anyone can add files as long as they know the unique URL of your shared folder.
There’s no registration required and neither do you have to invite anyone as a contributor. Just share the URL of your folder with friends and they’ll have full access – including delete permissions – to the files in that folder.

shared public folder

OneTimeBox is built using Meteor.js and the source code can be found on Github. Internally it uses the Filepicker API which uses the Amazon S3 service for storing files in the cloud. The app is neatly designed though you cannot add file to the shared folder from your mobile devices.

CHARGE YOUR PHONE IN 20 SECONDS

Eesha-khare1

Tech manufacturers that boast how fast their devices can juice up might want to listen up: A California teen has developed a super-capacitor that could lead to a 20- to 30-second phone charge.

Super-capacitors are energy-storage devices that have a long cycle life, and have the potential to store a lot of energy per unit volume. Sounds dandy, right? Not quite. The devices have limited use because they store less energy than batteries. But Eesha Khare, 18, of Saratoga, Calif. has made quite an advancement with this technology.

"The super-capacitor I have developed uses a special nanostructure, which allows for a lot greater energy per unit volume," Khare said in a video interview at last week's 2013 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix. The world's largest science fair brought together 1,600 high-school finalists from all over the world, who competed for more than $4 million in awards.
"It can charge very quickly, and it can last for 10,000 cycles, compared to batteries which are only like 1,000 cycles," added Khare, a student at Lynbrook High School in San Jose, Calif.

FIFA 14 : GAME WITH EXCELLENT GRAPHICS

It’s almost guaranteed to be the biggest sports video game ever released .

FIFA 14 review – generational gap

WHAT'S NEW :

First touch, shooting, and dribbling have all been revamped, but although the end result definitely feels different it’s arguable whether it’s actively better.
The new Pure Shot feature works very well with the new ball physics and animation system though, so that timing, positioning, and anticipation all become of equal importance in terms of getting a shot on target. Perhaps as a reaction to the newly resurgent Pro Evolution Soccer FIFA 14 plays noticeably slower than FIFA 13, encouraging you take your time creating chances and setting up more considered crosses and headers.

This is especially evident of the new Protect the Ball feature, which is meant to allow you to fend off and block opponents while running. But although again it’s purposefully meant to slow down the tempo that doesn’t always match up with the rest of FIFA’s more fast-paced action.
On balance the changes come out just about even but it does feel like EA have tried to make a fundamental change to the way the game plays by only changing specific elements, rather than building everything new from the ground up.

They get away with it because the changes are all in the right direction, but the gameplay doesn’t feel quite as consistent as it has previously. And yet in its best moments it’s as good as the game has ever been, with the new animation system allowing for much finer control and a much greater variety of shots.

The changes to the artificial intelligence are also definitely for the better, and it’s now good enough so that playing against the computer is almost as much fun as a real human opponent. Your own team-mates are much better at understanding what you’re doing and opponents will take the ball off you at the first sign of weakness.

AUDI'S FIRST EBIKE

The Audi E-bike is based on custom carbon fiber wheels and a full-suspension carbon fiber frame; even the front suspension forks are custom designed for this bike. The rims look very similar in design to those on the $80K Blacktrail, leading to speculation by some in the E-bike community that this bike was partially designed by PG Bikes, the company behind the Blacktrail.  Certainly at least the Audi ebike designers had the obscenely priced  Blacktrail in mind when they designed their bike. The Audi E-bike also uses the same “Harmonic Drive System” as the Blacktrail, a highly regarded German design developed by Clean Mobile. Clean Mobile builds custom bottom-bracket drive systems for exclusive high end bikes made by innovative European companies such as KTM . Ironically Clean Mobile also went through an ownership change recently, first filing insolvency, and then being acquired by TQ-Systems GmbH and switching most of its staff .

The key element to the Audi drive system designed by Clean Mobile, that it keeps the motor weight in the center of the frame (unlike most hub powered bikes which have heavy weight awkwardly placed in rear wheel) and most importantly allows the power to be driven through the bicycles  gear system. This means that the motor is allowed to operate in its maximum efficiency zone, because as we know, electric motors like to spin quickly at a high rpm.

Most expensive ebikes like this choose an In the Gear hub transmission like the German made 14 speed Rohloff. We are very surprised that  Audi opted to go with a standard derailleur system given the other flashes of bicycle technology in this bike such as the $800 Brake force one carbon fiber hydraulic brakes. We suspect that going with a derailleur instead of a Rohloff was a compromise Audi had to make to accommodate the carbon rims which have attached carbon spokes, and may have been a design blunder that will be corrected if and when the bike goes into production. Carbon rims with built in spokes make no sense on an ebike other than aesthetics, and add considerably to the cost.  To give you an idea the Blacktrail bike which uses an identical carbon wheel set, sells a replacement set of wheels and rims for a staggering $5000.

MY VIEWS  :
Its useful for those who want to use ebikes without compromising with speed .

PHONEBLOKS : Phone Worth Keeping

Do you want all features in a mobile then try PHONEBLOKS.

THE NEED :

A phone only lasts a couple of years before it breaks or becomes obsolete. Although it's often just one part that killed it, we throw everything away because it's almost impossible to repair or upgrade.

DESIGNED TO LAST :

Phoneblok is made of detachable bloks. The bloks are connected to the base which locks everything together into a solid phone. If a blok breaks you can easily replace it; if it's getting old just upgrade.

BLOKSTORE :

It's like an app store for hardware. In the store you buy your bloks, read reviews and sell old bloks. Small and big companies develop and sell their bloks. You can buy a pre-assembled phone or assemble it yourself by selecting the brands you want to support. The choice is yours.

MY VIEWS ON THIS TECHNOLOGY :

It is a very useful phone to customize  our phone . So one can get features in the mobile one wants.

TECHNOLOGICAL UPDATES IN MEDICAL SCIENCE : CANCER SPIT TEST

Forget biopsies—a device designed by researchers at the University of California-Los Angeles detects oral cancer from a single drop of saliva. Proteins that are associated with cancer cells react with dyes on the sensor, emitting fluorescent light that can be detected with a microscope. Engineer Chih-Ming Ho notes that the same principle could be applied to make saliva-based diagnostic tests for many diseases.

A CHEAP saliva test that would reveal a patient’s likelihood of developing breast or prostate cancer could be part of a routine visit to the doctor within five years.

The news follows an international research project, involving more than 1,000 scientists, that analyzed the DNA of 200,000 people – half of them with cancer and half without. The study, the largest to look for the faulty DNA that drives cancer, identified more than 80 genetic markers that make people more susceptible to developing ovarian, breast and prostate cancer. Together the cancers affect almost 100,000 people a year in the UK, 26,000 of whom die prematurely.

BIO TECHNOLOGY : SCIENTISTS PINPOINTS PROTIENS VITAL TO LONG TERM MEMORY

Scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) have found a group of proteins essential to the formation of long-term memories.

The study, published online ahead of print on September 12, 2013 by the journal Cell Reports, focuses on a family of proteins called Wnts. These proteins send signals from the outside to the inside of a cell, inducing a cellular response crucial for many aspects of embryonic development, including stem cell differentiation, as well as for normal functioning of the adult brain.

"By removing the function of three proteins in the Wnt signaling pathway, we produced a deficit in long-term but not short-term memory," said Ron Davis, chair of the TSRI Department of Neuroscience. "The pathway is clearly part of the conversion of short-term memory to the long-term stable form, which occurs through changes in gene expression."

The findings stem from experiments probing the role of Wnt signaling components in olfactory memory formation in Drosophila, the common fruit fly -- a widely used doppelgänger for human memory studies. In the new study, the scientists inactivated the expression of several Wnt signaling proteins in the mushroom bodies of adult flies -- part of the fly brain that plays a role in learning and memory.

The resulting memory disruption, Davis said, suggests that Wnt signaling participates actively in the formation of long-term memory, rather than having some general, non-specific effect on behavior.

"What is interesting is that the molecular mechanisms of adult memory use the same processes that guide the early development of the organism, except that they are repurposed for memory formation," he said. "One difference, however, is that during early development the signals are intrinsic, while in adults they require an outside stimulus to create a memory."

ONE OF THE TINIEST ROBOT : MESHWORM

One of the tiniest robots in development -- about the size of a fingertip -- the Meshworm moves and acts like a small earthworm. It propels itself inch by inch, using artificial muscles that mimic the way an earthworm moves, by stretching one part of itself forward, then pulling the rest of its body along behind it.

The Meshworm can move silently into the tiniest places to report back data, such as temperatures inside a confined space. It can also record audio and maybe even video in future versions. Made entirely of synthetic fibrous material, it's nearly indestructible. You can step on it or hit it with a hammer and it will keep going because the fibers are not damaged by impact.

ADVANCED MILITARY TECHNOLOGY FOR FUTURE

From Massachusetts-based Boston Dynamics, which works closely with DARPA, an amazingly agile "pack mule" robot will one day be commonplace on military missions in the field.

slideshow image

The robot will carry gear, such as heavy backpacks that can slow down ground forces. The four-legged "mule" easily negotiates rocks and divots in the road and field. It is intended to follow a military unit of soldiers autonomously, catching up with the unit on field forays with supplies, including food and ammunition. Refinements have made the robot surprisingly quiet, an important characteristic on a secret mission. Future versions of the pack mule will be able to interpret verbal and visual commands.

OUSTANDING GADGET : SAMSUNG SMART WINDOW

The Samsung Smart Window is a window, but it’s a display. It’s a giant transparent touchscreen you can use as a window. It’s a see-through, window iPad. It’s amazing.

It only takes a few features to drive home how crazy this technology is. For instance, it comes with a blinds app. If you activate it, you can slowly open and close the digital blinds and affect the amount of actual light that comes in. It’s also a one-way mirror, meaning that you don’t have to be afraid of passersby seeing you or what’s on your screen; they’ll only see themselves. As if all that wasn’t enough, because the Samsung Smart Window doesn’t need back light units (it uses natural light for that), it uses about 1/10th of the electricity that a standard LCD display its size would use. And in the dark, it has transparent back light units you can use at the cost of a little more power, so you’re always covered.
